Valerian Root - Valerian is a nervine tonic, meaning it has an affinity for the nervous system. It acts by binding to the beta subunit of the GABA-A receptor, effectively promoting relaxation, decreasing anxiety, and helping to combat insomnia. GABA is the chief inhibitory neurotransmitter of the central nervous system, our innate calm.
Passionflower - One of our favorite nervine herbal allies, Passionflower has held a special place in my heart, and in my medicine cabinet for a long time. More than reducing anxiety and promoting restful sleep, passionflower connects us to the divine, and is especially effective at disrupting those cyclical thinking patterns that often keep us awake at night.
Chamomile - Chamomile is well know as a calming herb, and she graciously lends her energy to synergistically enhance the efficacy of the blend.
Lavender - Lavender, like chamomile, is well known for her relaxation promoting qualities.
Mugwort - Mugwort is always included in my sleep preparations as it works well to encourage sleep, but may also promote prophetic and lucid dreaming.
Wormwood - Wormwood is the herb that Absinthe is derived from, and has slight hypnotic qualities, gently edging us toward the astral, where we may rest our minds and bodies here on the physical plane.
